I may have shed a tear…

or a few.  I chose not to get too emotionally invested in the US Women’s efforts to win the World Cup until today.  It seemed a little un-American to not even watch the end of the game though, so I turned on the tv right before regulation ended.  Immediately, I was glued to the game, wishing and hoping with all my might that our girls could come out on top.  How excruciating to see them get THISCLOSE.  Twice.  And then it slipped away all too quickly.  Not to any one player’s fault.  Japan just nailed them on PKs.

My heart broke a little with that last PK.  I watched the ceremony afterwards, though I’m not sure why.  When the confetti came down, and the Japanese girls raised up their trophy, tears rolled down my face.  Our girls played their hearts out, every second of that game and all the games leading up to it.  They wanted it so badly, and to have to stand their and watch their opponent take the trophy?  What a tough loss to handle.  Not that Japan didn’t deserve it, and I’m happy that their country gets to celebrate such a big win after so much devastation.

But still.
