this is where we (whoever happens to be in the office) volunteer once a month.  the homeless shelter serves lunch 365 days a year to our “neighbors” and offers an astounding array of services.  they have dentists come for cleanings and dental work, people can use their showers & laundry machines, and prayer services are held.  neighbors can receive mail at the shelter’s address, use the phones, make all kinds of art, and even join the well known soccer team.  it’s a wonderful place, and i always enjoy serving drinks on our assigned fridays.  today, a group of 15 young boys and 3 of their teachers were there to serve drinks as well.  this made for a raucous crowd in a relatively small space.  we were happy to set up while they took a tour, and then we let the boys take over.  their energy could have lit up the entire hearst tower.  it put a smile on my face to watch them get so excited about the huge wisk we use to stir lemonade or how much mix we use.
how nice to see what has become a routine activity for us from a new perspective.
